Dog story...... its been a while
Hola everyone,
Hope
you all had a wonderful week. My companion and I have been working really hard
here in Santiago!! We have also had some really hard days this week. Two people
told us that they didnt believe what we taught and that Joseph Smith didnt see
Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They also told us that prophets were
important back in the day and that they had there time but now they arent
important. Its just soo sad to me that people dont know the truth. I just
really wanted to help this lady sooo much. I tried bearing my testimony to her
but she just shot me down. Maybe one day in the near future she will know the
truth.
Other then the hard times this
week we had a baptism. It was the first one for my comapnion, she was sooo
excited. I am to haha. Hermana Duvy (lady who was baptized) was just sooooo
ready to hear the gospel. Right before the baptism we watched the Joseph Smith
Restoration video with her. After the video was over she looked at my companion
and I and told us that everything we taughted her was true. That the Book of
Mormon was true and that J.S really didnt see Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
After the baptism on Sunday she got up and shared her testimony to everyone
there. During her testimony she thanked my companion and I for everything that
we taught her. She said we gave her the truth!! She was soo happy. Now she is
really hitting hard on family history. She is soo excited to go to the temple
in March. She needs Sister Bluths help with some good old fashion family
history. They dont have anyone in the branch that knows alot. We are so excited
for what is to come with Hermana Duvy. She is awesome!!
Also this week during divisions
with one of the sister training leaders I got bit by a dog. After all this time
of no crazy dog stories now you have one. Sit back and enjoy. So here we were
just walking down the street and my companion for the day stops to ask a member
in her area where an investigator of theirs lives. As we stoped and talk to the
member I noticed that they had a really unclean dog. He was kinda big but
looked super nice. He wasnt barking or anything. So me being comfortable with
dogs (You know... since nothing bad has happened in a while) went to pet the
dog which was inside the gate of the house. I put my fingers next to its nose
so that it could smell me before I pet him then BAM!!!!! As he was sniffing me
BOOM he bit my fingers and started to bark. The member looked over and yelled
NO, HE BITES!! Well thanks for telling me... to late now haha. My companion was
freaking out. But I was fine just a little scrap and some skin. No big deal.
You cant even tell now haha... So their is your dog story. Long time... sorry
guys haha.
Well today (it being preparation
day) we got to hike a mountain. It was about 2 hours to the top. Super cold but
really cool. Pictures are to come.
have learned alot about
studying the scriptures latley. We need to make sure that we study every day. I
have made it a goal to read my scriptures in Spanish this next change. I just
started and Im almost out of Nephi. I dont understand everything but thats
okay. I invite you guys to join me. Love you guys and hope you have a great
week!!!

1 YEAR TO DO A TON OF THINGS!!!
Hola everyone,
So guys, I hit 6 months in the mission this last week. Do you know what that
means??? One more year to do a ton of things!!! Ahhh I am freaking out haha. I
just need to work that much harder to get everything done that Heavenly Father
needs from me. So my companion and I are going to work super hard.
This week has been a week of
hardship for my compaion and I but through it all we are still doing well. We
had 4 investigators at church yesterday. One of our investigators is getting
baptized this week. Her name is Duby and she is amazing. She is in her 60s and
we love her. She practically teaches us when we teach her haha.
This week my companion and I
also taught an Englsih class. It was soo funny to hear all the Latins speaking
English. But it was so fun. They kept calling me teacher Patrick haha. I think
it kinda helped me with the spanish as well. We teach the class every Friday at
the chapel.
This week were were also
invited to a party in which they burn the christmas tree for whatever reason.
Pictures to come soon. We had tons of candy haha so that was fun. My companion
as got feed cake by a crazy old lady haha.
This week during personal study I was studying some talks.
There is one that I would like to share with you all today. Its called
"The call to be Christlike" by Jeffrey R. Holland. Things that I
really like from the talk are as followed
1. "Zion is everywhere- wherever the church is. And
with that change, we no longer think of Zion as where we are going to live; we think
of it as how we are going to live." I really liked this because we to be
striving to live how Christ did all the time. Not just some times. Which leads
to my next fav. part of the talk.
2. He goes on to tell a story about a basketball game and
how rude some of the people were to a young man on the other team. "We are
“to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places
that [we] may be in” (Mosiah 18:9)—not
just some of the time, in a few places, or when our team has a big lead."
This is true for everything in life. I have learned that alot on the mission.
The young look to me and the Elders as an example. If they see us doing
something wrong they think that that is how the mission is. Then what kind of
missionary are they going to be when they go out. We really need to set
examples for EVERYONE around us. In all times, and in all things, and in all
places.
"Young people may ask, “Well, we don’t believe we should live or behave in such and such a way, but why do we have to make other people do the same? Don’t they have their free agency? Aren’t we being self-righteous and judgmental, forcing our beliefs on others, demanding that they act in a certain way?”
"Young people may ask, “Well, we don’t believe we should live or behave in such and such a way, but why do we have to make other people do the same? Don’t they have their free agency? Aren’t we being self-righteous and judgmental, forcing our beliefs on others, demanding that they act in a certain way?”
In
those situations you are going to have to explain sensitively why some
principles are defended and some sins opposed wherever they are found because
the issues and the laws involved are not just social or political but eternal
in their consequence. And while not wishing to offend those who believe
differently from us, we are even more anxious not to offend God."I would
invite all of you to look up this talk and read it. It has really helped alot
with trying to become Christlike. Well everyone, hope your week is great and I
hope everyone enjoyed there time off from school. Have a wonderful week. Thanks
everyone for the emails!! Love you all!

BEST WEEK EVER!!
So this week has been very
exciting!! So we have progressing investigators right now. One, whos name is
Luis, is super awesome! He is so ready to be baptized but as most of you know
he cant be because he is still living with his girlfriend. Another problem is
is that he doesnt want her to move out because he wants to marry her. Well
thats all great but guess what? He is married to someone else. They split up
along time ago and filed for a divorce but Luis is not sure if it ever got
finalized. So this week we get a call at about 5:45am from Luis. He called us
to tell us that he found some papers about the divorce but hes not sure if its
finalized. The papers wernt signed by a judge so we had no clue either. Lets
face it, ive never been divorced before haha. Anyways, so we see that there is
a website listed at the bottom of the paper. We get to a computer and go to the
link. We find a phone number and call. Oh just fyi Luis lived in the states for
like 25 years of his life (yes speaks English) and so his marriage was in the
states. So we go to the store by a calling card and call the number. Someone
answers the phone but shes they cant help until Monday morning when the office
opens at 8:30am. So this weekend... it being fast Sunday, my companion and I
did a fast with Luis for his divorce. Today we got up and called only to find
out that the divorce was finalized in May of 2007. WOOHOO!! How exciting is
that. We are going to get him married and in the water ASAP! We are so excited
for him. So far in the mission this is one of the great events. I just love
watching how Luis is changing through the gospel. Its so wonderful.
Also this week we have another
investigator that is making wonderful progress. Her name is Duby. She is in
Mosiah chapter 11 right now in the Book of Mormon. She is fantastice. She came
to church this sunday and loved in as well. She will be getting baptized the
17th of this month.
This week has been a week of
blessing everywhere. We are just so excited that out area is progressing.
Along with a week of blessings
comes its hard times. So this week I was filling a little sick and then about
two days later I woke up and couldnt talk. We called the nurse and she told us
to go to the doctor because alot of the missionaries have strep throat. So we
went to the doctor and guess what, I had strep. We got some medication and had
to stay inside the house all day. We couldnt go out to work. I feel a lot
better now and we are working hard.
Well Happy Birthday to My dad
and Aunt this week. Love you guys. I miss you all and hope you have a wonderful
week. I have been reading a lot of conference talks this week so I would invite
you guys to read some as well. Really ponder what the words say. Well, Happy
New Year!!
